Mestre das Periferias is a tribute from UNIperiferias | Instituto Maria and João Aleixo to people who are Masters from other territories, looks and paradigms. They are Master people for the organic and resolute knowledge of everyday teaching, learning, exchange, solidarity and collectivity - practices so strongly present and widespread in the favelas, indigenous villages and quilombos. Ailton Krenak, Conceição Evaristo, Antônio Nêgo Bispo and Marielle Franco (in memoriam) were the first people honored and awarded by Mestre das Periferias, in a ceremony held at Galpão Bela Maré, Rio de Janeiro, in August 2018. The meeting between Krenak, Conceição and Nêgo Bispo is unprecedented and, recorded in this book, took place behind the scenes and warming of the award. In its second part, the book brings individual interviews with Ailton Krenak and Conceição Evaristo, accompanied by a class given by Nêgo Bispo in the Course Meanings of the Peripheries (2019), and text in memory and tribute to Marielle Franco: a flower that breaks the asphalt!
