The workshops addressed topics such as the importance of kites for culture, mathematical and scientific concepts little thought in this practice, the history of kites in human history and how they can economically affect these regions. All of them were taught by black teachers of peripheral origin, and built from the exchange of knowledge with those present.
In addition to showing how important this activity is, often seen only as playful, the action also sought to include female representation to the universe of kites and bring out how necessary it is to recognize and foster the cultural practices of peripheral regions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ya1ackTCI3E&t=27s; A residence in Maré - Documentary; 20:58; The Maria e João Aleixo Institute (IMJA), located in Maré, Rio de Janeiro, held, from August to December 2017, The International Residency program in which it received twelve researchers and researchers from the fields of art and culture, social activism and human rights, from Cape Verde, Colombia, Guinea-Bissau, Mexico and Portugal and the Brazilian states of Minas Gerais, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí and São Paulo.
The objective of the International Residence program was the formation of subjects and the production and dissemination of content about and from the urban peripheries, amid the experience in the territory of Maré and the sharing of different peripheral cultures.

In addition to the deconstruction of stereotypes and stigmas that mark peripheral subjects and territories, we wish to mobilize other possibilities of reading, recognition and affirmation of the peripheries as powers of invention of sociocultural representations, differences of being and political transgressions of social inequalities and corporeal-territorial distinctions.
