ABOUT THE INSTITUTE

The Maria and João Aleixo Institute is a think tank - study center - that began its actions in March 2016, based in the Maré favela, in Rio de Janeiro. It creates means and resources capable of building better futures for the entire society, starting from the peripheries. We believe that representations about peripheral subjects and territories are fundamental in the construction of their places in the world, which is why we are dedicated to the production of knowledge and narratives based on a peripheral epistemology.

Uniperiferias

The International University of the Peripheries works to develop an international network dedicated to training subjects and producing knowledge that makes visible and strengthens the powers of the peripheries.

SEJA DEMOCRACIA

Seja Democracia is a political training center, dedicated to expanding and strengthening the representation of residents of the outskirts in the political field and its mission is to defend a radically democratic society.

PERIFERIAS PUBLISHER

A Editora Periferias (Periferias Publisher) works to democratize the literary language in Brazil and around the world, through the publication of works by authors from the peripheries.
